Introducing our Newest Instructors, John Speers & Laurel Hall

John Speers grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he played oboe in the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Young Peoples' Symphony Orchestra in High School. He graduated the University of Michigan in 2011 with a Bachelors degree in oboe performance. Following his graduation, he returned to the Bay Area, where he currently resides.

John spends his time freelancing with different orchestras throughout the Bay Area and teaching a full studio of private students in the East Bay. He also runs a non-profit organization called “The Prevailing Winds,” which raises money to send professional musicians to public schools and get students excited about classical music. He loves to teach and inspire students and he believes in making private lessons both fun and productive at the same time.

Teaching music is Laurel Hall’s passion. To share her love of music with students, Laurel draws on 38 years of experience as a professional clarinetist/teacher. Laurel teaches students of all ages and ability levels. Her teaching focus is on sharing enjoyable, engaging and efficient ways to practice and grow. Her top students have distinguished themselves as section leaders in their bands and orchestras, participants in local, state and national honor bands, and as competition winners at the local, state and national levels. Welcome Laurel!

Who is Lamorinda Music?

We are members of the community with a simple philosophy. Music is fun. It is fun to play and a joy to listen to. It is fun to try a new instrument, discover a new band you like, improve as a musician, buy a cute music-related gift, and even fun (most of the time!) to practice. So why shouldn't a music store be fun too? We believe in a friendly, happy, and well-stocked music store that caters to brand-new elementary school musicians, seasoned professionals, and everyone in between. We can't wait to see you.
